PERSPECTIVE

BECAUSE they're designed for the floor, rugs provide a unique opportunity to explore art from previously unexplored standpoints, positions, and perspectives. Lizz Greer recognized this opportunity and began a journey to purposefully create art for this medium. The result: Lizz Greer's limited edition artisan rugs.

TO TRULY explore the depth of this new medium, Lizz Greer knew she had to go beyond designing a new line of rugs. She was inspired to create experiences in reflection and emotion that are indeed unique works of art for the floor. It was a task that required considerably more than simply designing illustrations based on patterns or geometry. Lizz embarked on an intimate journey of drawing from her personal experiences and travels throughout the world. She infused these experiences with color and texture as she created these very personal artisan rugs. The result was designs with an uncommon emotional impact. Lizz Greer's artisan rugs evoke images and feelings as varied as the people viewing them, and have significant influence on the tone and mood of a home.

  PRODUCTION

THE NEXT STEP in Lizz's journey was to ensure that her designs were translated into the highest quality hand knotted rugs in the world. She began by using only the finest sheep's wool from the Tibetan Highlands; pure wool that is uniquely suited for longevity, strength and beauty. Next, she added a small amount of luxurious Chinese silk to achieve a special effect of shine for certain details.

TO ENSURE the highest quality of craft and production, every Lizz Greer rug is completely handmade. Each step of the process is given meticulous attention beginning with wool selection, washing, carding, and spinning. Particular care is given to color matching as skeins are dyed in batches according to the amount needed for each individual rug. The project then reaches the looms and hand knotting and weaving is done row by row until a beautiful work of art emerges. Once weaving is complete the rug surface is trimmed and it undergoes a special washing process to achieve softness to the touch. The final step is drying and stretching to shape. The entire process is done by master Tibetan craftspeople in Nepal using centuries old techniques passed down and perfected through the generations.
